Angel Reese’s Rookie Season Ends Prematurely Due to Injury, Sparks Discussion About Rivalry with Caitlin Clark

Angel Reese, the rookie sensation for the Chicago Sky, has announced that her season is over due to a season-ending injury, Fox News reports.

Reese, who broke the WNBA single-season rebounding record in her first year, made the announcement on X, expressing gratitude for the opportunity.

“I’m filled with emotions right now that I have a season-ending injury, but also filled with so much gratitude for what is next,” she wrote. “Although this is God’s timing and not mine, I am finally able to give myself a physical and mental break.”

Despite the early end to her rookie campaign, Reese leaves a lasting mark on the league. She not only broke the single-season rebounding record but also set the record for most rebounds per game with a remarkable 13.1.

Reese’s dominant performance, coupled with the impressive play of fellow rookie Caitlin Clark, ignited a heated rivalry between the two stars. While Clark leads in most other statistical categories, including points, assists, and steals, Reese’s rebounding dominance made her a formidable competitor.

In a podcast episode released Thursday, Reese addressed the rivalry, expressing respect for Clark but criticizing her fans for what she described as harassment. Reese alleged that Clark’s fans have targeted her with death threats, visited her home, and even created AI-generated images depicting her in a nude state and sent them to her family members.

Reese and Clark were the only rookies selected to the WNBA All-Star Game in July. Their rivalry, fueled by their on-court battles and off-court interactions, has captivated fans and sparked discussions about the nature of competition and the responsibility of fan behavior.
