Trump Campaign Claims Iran Plotting to Assassinate Former President
  • PublishedSeptember 25, 2024

The campaign team of former US President Donald Trump has alleged that intelligence officials have briefed him on “real and specific” threats of assassination from Iran, NHK reports.

The campaign claims these threats are aimed at destabilizing the United States and sowing chaos.

The statement alleges that the threats from Iran have intensified in recent months and that intelligence authorities are working to ensure Trump’s safety and protect the upcoming election from interference.

“The terror regime in Iran loves the weakness of Kamala Harris, and is terrified of the strength and resolve of” Trump, the statement read. “Trump will let nothing stop him or get in his way to fight for the American people.”

The claims come amidst heightened tensions between the United States and Iran, which escalated during Trump’s presidency. Notably, the US withdrew from the Iranian nuclear deal and reinstated sanctions against Tehran, leading to a period of heightened tensions.

Neither the White House nor the Office of the Director of National Intelligence has commented on the allegations made by Trump’s campaign.
