North Korea Sends Trash-Filled Balloons to South Korea
North Korea has sent a bundle of trash-filled balloons across the border with its southern neighbor, Fox News reports.
This latest move follows a string of similar incidents since earlier this year, where North Korea has launched thousands of balloons filled with wastepaper, cloth scraps, cigarette butts, and even manure towards South Korea.
The Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) earlier this month reported detecting around 420 balloons launched by North Korea into South Korea.
North Korea justifies these actions as retaliation against South Korean civilian activists who fly anti-North Korean propaganda leaflets across the border.
Concerns were heightened in July when trash carried by a North Korean balloon fell on the South Korean presidential compound. Although officials confirmed the balloon contained no dangerous materials and no one was injured, the incident highlighted the vulnerability of key South Korean facilities.
South Korea has responded to these moves by employing front-line loudspeakers to blast propaganda messages and K-pop songs towards North Korea.
