Jackson 5’s Tito Jackson Passes Away at 70
The music world mourns the loss of Tito Jackson, a founding member of the legendary Jackson 5, who passed away at the age of 70, The Associated Press reports.
Tito, known for his background vocals and guitar skills, was the third of nine Jackson children, a family that produced global icons like Michael and Janet.
“It’s with heavy hearts that we announce that our beloved father, Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Tito Jackson is no longer with us,” shared Tito’s sons, TJ, Taj, and Taryll, in a statement on Instagram. “We are shocked, saddened and heartbroken. Our father was an incredible man who cared about everyone and their well-being.”
The Jackson 5, consisting of brothers Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon, and Michael, rose to fame in the 1970s, captivating audiences with hits like “ABC,” “I Want You Back,” and “I’ll Be There.” Their father Joe Jackson served as their manager.
Despite his major contributions, Tito remained largely in the background, focusing on his role as a supporting musician. While his brothers, particularly Michael, soared to solo stardom, Tito dedicated himself to raising his three sons, TJ, Taj, and Taryll, who formed the musical group 3T.
Tito is survived by his brothers Jermaine, Randy, Marlon, and Jackie, his sisters Janet, Rebbie, and Latoya, and their mother, Katherine.
