Harris, Trump Call Each Other Names, Clash in Heated Presidential Debate
A televised debate between US presidential candidates Kamala Harris and Donald Trump, hosted by ABC News, became a heated exchange, with both candidates engaging in personal attacks throughout the nearly two-hour event.
The debate began with a handshake initiated by Harris, but quickly devolved into a bitter exchange of accusations and insults. Harris, the Democratic nominee, repeatedly attacked Trump’s character, saying that she had spoken with foreign leaders who described Trump as “a disgrace to the country”. She also stated that “world leaders are laughing at Donald Trump.”
Harris also brought up the legal cases against Trump, alleging that he would abolish the Constitution and use the Department of Justice against his political opponents” if re-elected.
“It’s well known that he admires dictators, he wants to be a dictator from day one [in the White House],” she added.
Drawing a contrast in their backgrounds, Harris stated that she was from a middle-class family while Trump “got handed $400 million on a silver platter and then filed bankruptcy six times”.
Trump, in response, labeled Harris a “Marxist,” dubbing her “the worst VP” in the US history. He also accused the Democratic Party of attempting to assassinate him, stressing that he got shot in the head due to their rhetoric.
Harris also made a bold move, urging viewers to attend one of Trump’s rallies.
“I’m going to invite you to attend one of Donald Trump’s rallies because it’s a really interesting thing to watch. You will see during the course of his rallies, he talks about fictional characters like Hannibal Lecter. He will talk about [how] windmills cause cancer. And what you will also notice is that people start leaving his rallies early out of exhaustion and boredom,” Harris said.
Trump countered by accusing Harris of paying people to attend her campaign events.
