“Shogun” Dominates Creative Arts Emmys with Record-Breaking 14 Wins

The Creative Arts Emmys, held over two nights, saw a clear winner emerge: “Shogun.” The FX series about feudal Japan garnered an astounding 14 awards, shattering the previous record of 13 held by “John Adams” in 2008, The Associated Press reports.

“Shogun” won in nearly every category it was nominated for, including costumes, makeup, editing, stunts, and cinematography, solidifying its position as the top contender in the upcoming Primetime Emmys.

“Shogun” wasn’t the only show to celebrate, however. “The Bear” also enjoyed a successful evening, taking home seven awards including Best Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for Jamie Lee Curtis. Curtis, emotional on stage, accepted her first Emmy just 18 months after winning her first Oscar for “Everything Everywhere All at Once.”

Another notable win came from the songwriting team of Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, who secured their first Emmy for their song in “Only Murders in the Building,” making them the 20th and 21st members of the prestigious EGOT club.

Other noteworthy wins included Michaela Coel for Best Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for her role in “Mr. and Mrs. Smith,” and Jon Bernthal for Best Guest Actor in a Comedy for his performance in “The Bear.”

The Creative Arts Emmys saw a distinct trend of celebrating “Shogun’s” success, with presenters and winners frequently referencing the series’ dominance. The show’s consistent wins even led to some humorous moments, such as when Eric Andŕe, winner of an Emmy for his talk show, jokingly expressed frustration about not being on “Shogun.”

The two nights of Creative Arts Emmys, showcasing the best of reality and variety TV, will be edited into a single 2.5-hour program airing on FXX on September 14 and streaming on Hulu the following day. The main Primetime Emmy Awards, hosted by Dan and Eugene Levy, will take place at the Peacock Theater on September 15, airing on ABC.
