Dubai’s Skyline to Welcome World’s Second Tallest Skyscraper: Burj Azizi

Dubai’s already impressive skyline, home to the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa, is set to welcome another architectural marvel: Burj Azizi, CNN reports.

This new skyscraper, announced by real estate firm Azizi Developments, will reach a staggering 2,379 feet, making it the world’s second tallest building.

The project, which broke ground in January 2023, was initially planned for a height of 526 meters. However, the developer, Azizi Developments, has secured approval for the taller design, leading to additional foundation and piling work.

“From the outset, we had plans for two designs…one for the initially approved height…and the other for the taller, now-approved 725 meters,” explained Mirwais Azizi, founder and chairman of Azizi Developments.

Burj Azizi, located in the World Trade Center district on Sheikh Zayed Road, will boast 131 floors, housing apartments, a seven-star luxury hotel, and a seven-floor vertical shopping mall.

While it will stand almost 340 feet shorter than the Burj Khalifa, Burj Azizi will surpass the current second-tallest building in Dubai, Marina 101, and will even outdo the current world’s second tallest, Malaysia’s Merdeka 118.

The developer anticipates setting multiple world records with Burj Azizi, including the highest hotel lobby, nightclub, and observation deck. It will also claim the record for the highest restaurant and hotel room in Dubai.

Azizi Developments has invested over 6 billion dirhams ($1.6 billion) in the project and expects apartments to go on sale in February 2025. Completion is slated for 2028.

“My vision for Burj Azizi is to create a lasting legacy, a tribute to Dubai as a destination of choice for both residents and visitors and a monumental achievement in engineering,” said Azizi.

Dubai’s ambition for supertall structures is evident with numerous other projects underway, including the Franck Muller Aeternitas Tower, aiming to be the world’s tallest residential clock tower, and Ciel Dubai Marina, expected to become the world’s tallest hotel.
