Manchester Hotel Chain Accused of Cancelling Bookings After Oasis Reunion Announcement
A hotel chain in Manchester is facing accusations of cancelling bookings after the announcement of the Oasis reunion tour, with claims that the rooms were subsequently relisted at significantly higher prices, Sky News reports.
Sacha Lord, Greater Manchester’s night-time economy adviser, took to X (formerly Twitter) to share that he had been contacted by “several people” who experienced cancelled reservations at the Maldron Hotels, attributed to a “computer error.” Lord asserted that the cancelled bookings were later made available for three times the original price.
Many users responded to Lord’s post saying they too had faced similar issues with their reservations. Mark Slinger, 36, who is an Oasis fan living on the Isle of Man, told the broadcaster about his experience. Slinger had booked a room at the four-star Maldron Hotel in Manchester city center for 20 July, coinciding with the final night of Oasis’s highly anticipated shows at Heaton Park next year.
He confirmed that he made the £90 reservation through Booking.com just hours after the band announced their reunion tour. However, later that evening, he received a call from the hotel requesting the cancellation of his booking.
The allegations have sparked outrage among fans and consumers, outlining concerns over potential profiteering by the hotel in the wake of the band’s reunion announcement.
