Vance Fires Back, Accusing Walz of “Weird” Behavior Amidst Shifting Campaign Landscape

Republican vice presidential nominee JD Vance has turned the tables on his Democratic rival, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, accusing him of being “weird” in a recent interview with CNN.

Vance pointed to Walz’s actions at a rally in Philadelphia, where he shook his wife’s hand before hugging her, as evidence of his “awkwardness.” He contrasted this with his own more affectionate greeting of his wife after a speech, suggesting that Walz is  avoiding genuine displays of affection.

“I think what it is, is two people, Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, who aren’t comfortable in their own skin, because they’re uncomfortable with their policy positions for the American people,” he said. “And so they’re name-calling instead of actually telling the American people how they’re going to make their lives better. I think that’s weird…but look, they can call me whatever they want to.”

This exchange comes amidst a broader debate over “weirdness,” fueled by Walz’s previous description of both Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump and Vance as “just weird”. Vance dismissed this as “schoolyard bully stuff” and linked it to his own past comments about “childless cat ladies,” which he insists were taken out of context.

With the election looming, Vance has acknowledged a shift in the race since Vice President Kamala Harris replaced President Joe Biden as the Democratic nominee. He plans to focus on contrasting Trump’s policies with those of the Biden-Harris administration, arguing that Harris is “clearly” responsible for the current administration’s policies and that Biden is “not capable of doing the job.” He further claims that Harris is “calling the shots” in the White House.
