The Sudanese government announced on Friday that it will send a delegation to Jeddah to consult with the United States regarding an invitation to ceasefire talks in Geneva on August 14, Reuters reports.
The talks aim to bring an end to the 15-month-old conflict between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitary.
These Geneva talks, which the RSF has agreed to attend, represent the first significant attempt at mediation between the warring parties in Sudan in several months.
The conflict between the Sudanese army and the RSF, which began in April 2023, has resulted in the deaths of around 18,800 people and the displacement of nearly 10 million, according to the estimates of the United Nations.
