The Wyoming Independent Citizens Coalition (WICC), Hispanic Organization for Progress & Education (HOPE), Wyoming Civic Engagement Network (WyCEN), and Equality State Policy Center’s (ESPC) The Chair Project are hosting Capitol Collaboration Day on Friday, February 28, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Wyoming State Capitol in Cheyenne, Wyoming News Now reports.
This free event is designed for individuals who are new to Wyoming’s legislative process and have never visited the state capitol before. Organizers aim to provide a welcoming and informative experience, helping attendees understand how state government works, connect with advocacy groups, and learn how to effectively engage in civic matters.
The event offers several opportunities for participants to explore, learn, and engage in Wyoming’s legislative process, including:
- Guided Capitol Tours & Legislative Observations – Attendees can take a tour of the capitol, sit in on committee hearings, and see lawmakers in action.
- Educational Workshops Over a Free Lunch – Informative sessions will cover topics such as:
- Navigating WyoLeg 101: How to track bills and follow legislative updates online.
- Civic Engagement in Action: Ways to get involved in local and state government.
- Giving Voices to the Voiceless: Practical steps to advocate for key issues.
- Networking Opportunities – Attendees will meet community organizations and individuals working toward increased civic participation in Wyoming.
Event organizers emphasize the importance of making Wyoming’s legislative process accessible to all, particularly underrepresented communities.
“As a first-generation Mexican American, I know how intimidating the legislative process can seem. Capitol Collaboration Day is a chance to break down those barriers and show that government should be accessible to everyone,” said Rosa Reyna-Pugh, ESPC’s Civic Engagement Director.
“This event is about planting seeds of civic engagement for future generations. When we bring our communities into these spaces, we create a ripple effect of advocacy and empowerment,” said Carla Gregorio, WICC President.
“Capitol Collaboration Day is about representation, education, and action. By providing a welcoming space, we’re ensuring that more voices from our communities are heard and valued in Wyoming’s democracy,” said Rachel Martinez, WyCEN Executive Director.
Organizers encourage anyone interested in civic engagement to attend, whether they are new to the process or looking to deepen their involvement.
