A Wyoming Highway Patrol (WHP) Lieutenant from Troop P in Carbon County was struck by a vehicle while responding to a separate crash on Interstate 80 on Saturday, February 1.
According to a WHP statement, the Lieutenant was inside his patrol cruiser when the incident occurred, leaving him temporarily trapped in the vehicle. Emergency responders transported him to a hospital, where he was treated and later released. The WHP confirmed that the Lieutenant is “doing well and ready to get back to work.”
Following the incident, the WHP reminded motorists of the importance of adhering to Wyoming’s Move Over Law, which requires drivers on interstates to shift to the farthest lane from emergency vehicles. On two-lane roads with speed limits above 45 mph, drivers must reduce speed by 20 mph below the posted limit when passing emergency or maintenance vehicles.
“For the safety of everyone, please remember to SLOW DOWN and MOVE OVER for all stopped emergency and maintenance vehicles,” the WHP emphasized.
