Seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton was involved in a crash on the second day of testing a 2023 Ferrari Formula One car at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona, Al Jazeera reports.
Fortunately, the 40-year-old driver emerged unscathed from the incident.
The crash occurred when Hamilton lost control of the vehicle in the final section of the circuit, resulting in a collision with a barrier that caused damage to both the suspension and bodywork of the car, according to reports from Sky Italy.
Having recently joined Ferrari after an illustrious career with Mercedes, Hamilton is still acclimating to his new surroundings. He had previously had a first test run at the team’s Fiorano track last week.
Under current regulations, Formula One teams face strict limitations on testing current-specification cars. However, the rules are more lenient for older models, such as the SF-23 that Hamilton was piloting during the test. Hamilton was getting crucial laps in behind closed doors alongside his new teammate, Charles Leclerc.
Official preseason testing for the new season is set to begin in Bahrain on February 26 and will run through February 28. Hamilton will be partnering with Leclerc at Ferrari, a team that has not claimed a driver’s title since 2007. The Scuderia aims to contend for the championship in the upcoming 2025 season, kicking off with the Australian Grand Prix from March 14 to 16.
