Rock Springs Dominates Wyoming State Cheer Competition, Kelly Walsh Impresses with Strong Performances
The Ford Wyoming Center in Casper was filled with energy and excitement on Friday afternoon as cheer squads from across the state showcased their talent at the Wyoming High School Activities Association State Spirit Competition, Casper Star-Tribune reports.
The event featured a captivating mix of dance, athletic stunts, and school pride.
Local favorites Kelly Walsh and Natrona County high schools made strong showings, with Kelly Walsh’s jazz dance squad delivering a standout performance. Their routine followed an eye-catching set from Evanston’s team, who dazzled in black dresses and gold Cleopatra-inspired headwear.
Spectators cheered loudly for Casper-based teams, with similarly enthusiastic support for squads from Cheyenne schools, especially Cheyenne East. The southwest side of the arena was packed with fans from across the state.
While Kelly Walsh didn’t capture any first-place victories, the Trojans secured second-place finishes in multiple categories, including 4A Jazz Dance, where they placed ahead of Evanston but fell short to Rock Springs. The school also earned second in hip-hop dance and all-girl stunt events, but placed eighth in gameday cheer.
Natrona County High School participated in gameday and hip-hop dance, finishing eighth and tenth, respectively.
Rock Springs emerged as the dominant force in the 4A category, winning first place in every category except gameday cheer, where they placed ninth. Green River claimed the top spot in that event, with Cheyenne South and Star Valley rounding out the podium.
