Elderly Woman Fatally Struck in Thermopolis Hit-and-Run Incident

85-year-old woman, Bernadine Blacketer, tragically lost her life after being struck by a vehicle while crossing the street in Thermopolis on January 24th, K2 Radio reports.

The incident occurred near 729 Arapahoe Street at approximately 6:55 a.m.

According to the Wyoming Highway Patrol, driver inattention is being considered a possible contributing factor. At the time of the crash, road conditions were icy with snow present.

The driver of the GMC Yukon involved in the collision initially fled the scene without stopping to provide aid. Thermopolis Police issued an urgent plea to the public for assistance, requesting video footage from doorbell and security cameras in the vicinity, including Arapahoe, 6th, and 7th streets, between 6:45 a.m. and 7:30 a.m.

Later updates from authorities confirmed that the driver and vehicle were identified and located.

This incident marks the third fatality on Wyoming roads in 2025.
