Kellan and Carson Johnson, brothers from Casper, Wyoming, are making waves at the 2025 National Western Stock Show Rodeo (NWSS) in Denver, the Fence Post reports.

The team roping duo has displayed remarkable consistency, positioning themselves among the top contenders in the competition. A victory in the Denver Coliseum would mark a significant milestone in their rodeo careers, one deeply rooted in a family tradition of excellence.

The Johnson brothers grew up immersed in the world of rodeo, with their father, Jhett Johnson, a world champion team roping heeler and rancher, as their mentor. From a young age, Kellan and Carson practiced roping together, often imagining themselves competing at prestigious events their father had excelled in.

Kellan’s rodeo journey took off during his college years at Gillette, Wyoming, where he teamed up with Colorado’s Trey Yates to win the college title in 2018. Carson later joined him at Casper College, where their father served as the rodeo coach. Together, the brothers won the 2021 College National Finals Rodeo, thrilling their hometown crowd.

Their achievements extend beyond college competitions, with both brothers competing in professional rodeos and ranking among the top 30 in the world standings. This year, they aim to qualify for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo, with their performance in Denver providing crucial momentum.

Competing in bracket six of the NWSS, the Johnson brothers delivered back-to-back impressive performances. In Tuesday’s matinee round, they completed their run in 5.1 seconds, followed by a 5.0-second run that evening. Their combined time of 10.1 seconds secured them the top spot in their bracket and a place in Saturday’s Semi-Finals.

The Semi-Finals will feature three performances on Saturday, with the top four teams from each advancing to Sunday’s finals. These final rounds will bring together the best contestants and livestock, ensuring an exhilarating conclusion to the NWSS Rodeo.

The Johnson brothers’ success is a testament to their dedication and family legacy. They hope their achievements inspire others and contribute to Wyoming’s proud rodeo tradition. For Kellan and Carson, a win at the NWSS Rodeo would be another step toward realizing their dreams on the national stage.

The NWSS Rodeo continues to showcase top talent across multiple events, including bareback riding, steer wrestling, saddle bronc riding, tie-down roping, women’s barrel racing, and bull riding.

For rodeo fans, tickets are still available for the remaining Semi-Final and Final performances. As the Johnson brothers and other competitors vie for top honors, the NWSS promises a thrilling weekend of rodeo action.
