The Wyoming Department of Education (WDE) has announced that six Wyoming educators have been named recipients of the prestigious Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) for the 2021-2023 cohorts, Sheridan Media reports.
This award is considered the highest recognition for K-12 STEM teachers in the United States.
Each of the recipients will receive a certificate signed by the President, a $10,000 award, and an invitation to attend a formal awards ceremony in Washington, D.C.
The Wyoming PAEMST honorees include:
Mathematics Awardees:
- Emmy Hergert – Thermopolis Middle School, Thermopolis (2023)
- Wade Kinsey – Woodland Park Elementary, Sheridan (2022)
- Rachel Peters – Lander Valley High School, Lander (2021)
Science Awardees:
- Charity Penn – Douglas Middle School, Douglas (2023)
- Andrea Hayden – Spring Creek Elementary, Laramie (2022)
- Claudia Troxel – Lander Valley High School and Central Wyoming Community College, Lander (2021)
State Superintendent of Public Instruction Megan Degenfelder expressed pride in the recipients, praising their dedication to inspiring Wyoming students in STEM fields. She emphasized that this recognition highlights their hard work, creativity, and significant impact on students’ lives.
The PAEMST program recognizes 336 teachers and mentors across the nation, including those in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Department of Defense schools, and US territories. It honors educators who encourage curiosity and inspire future innovators in the fields of mathematics and science.
