A new study by personal finance website WalletHub has ranked Wyoming as one of the least favorable states for driving, placing it 38th overall in their “Best & Worst States to Drive in (2025)” report.
The ranking, which evaluates 50 states based on 31 indicators of a positive driving experience, highlights areas where Wyoming struggles, particularly in safety and vehicle access.
WalletHub’s study assessed states across metrics like gas prices, road quality, and traffic conditions, breaking down their findings into four main categories:
- Cost of Ownership & Maintenance Rank: 13th
- Traffic & Infrastructure Rank: 9th
- Safety Rank: 49th
- Access to Vehicles & Maintenance Rank: 48th
While Wyoming scored relatively well in cost-related and infrastructure factors, poor rankings in safety (49th) and vehicle access and maintenance (48th) dragged down the state’s overall standing.
Wyoming’s neighboring states also struggled in the rankings, with Colorado (46th), Montana (48th), and Utah (37th) landing near the bottom. However, Idaho was a notable exception, ranking 2nd overall as one of the best states to drive in.
