Trump Announces $500 Billion AI Infrastructure Project with Tech Giants
In a move signaling a major push in artificial intelligence development, US President Donald Trump has announced a $500 billion joint venture with Oracle, SoftBank, and OpenAI to advance AI infrastructure, Al Jazeera reports.
The announcement was made at a White House event on Tuesday, attended by SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, and Oracle Chief Technology Officer Larry Ellison.
Trump hailed the project as the largest AI infrastructure endeavor in history, stating it represented “a resounding declaration of confidence in America’s potential” under his administration. The project, dubbed “Stargate,” will be led by SoftBank and OpenAI, with Son serving as chairman, according to a statement released by OpenAI.
The announcement came a day after President Trump revoked an executive order issued by former President Joe Biden, which had established safety guidelines for AI development. Biden’s order would have required companies to share the results of safety tests with the U.S. government, among other provisions. With Trump’s revocation, projects like Stargate will no longer be subject to national development guidelines, although state-level restrictions may still apply.
According to OpenAI, Stargate will also incorporate several of the U.S.’s leading tech companies. SoftBank, OpenAI, Oracle, and MGX will serve as equity funders, while Arm, Microsoft, NVIDIA, Oracle, and OpenAI have been named as “key initial technology partners,” the company stated on X.
