The Wyoming Cowboys faced offensive challenges in a 79–63 loss to Colorado State on Saturday, Cap City News reports.
Shooting just 39.7% from the field and making only five three-pointers, the Pokes struggled to match the Rams’ physicality and consistency.
“I wrote two things on the board for our guys: physicality and toughness,” said Wyoming head coach Sundance Wicks. “You have to punch, not counter-punch. We missed physical finishes and didn’t make tough stops in big moments. Commitment to defending, rebounding, and keeping the flow is what we need, and that job is open for seven or eight guys.”
Wyoming’s standout performer was Obi Agbim, who recorded 26 points and tied his season-best with six rebounds. It marked his sixth 20-point game of the season. Dontaie Allen added 14 points, tying his season-high and going 3-for-5 from beyond the arc.
Colorado State capitalized on their size and presence in the paint, opening the game with a 6–0 run. The Cowboys briefly responded with a 7–0 run led by Agbim and Cole Henry, claiming a slight early lead. However, Wyoming soon faced a scoring drought, allowing the Rams to build a 22–15 advantage midway through the first half.
The Rams extended their lead to 28–17 before Wyoming rallied with a 7–0 run to close the half, narrowing the deficit to 36–28.
The Cowboys cut the Rams’ lead to six points early in the second half, fueled by defensive stops and turnovers. However, Colorado State responded with back-to-back three-pointers to rebuild a 51–42 lead.
Despite forcing turnovers and briefly holding the Rams scoreless, Wyoming struggled to convert offensively. Colorado State consistently regained control, extending their lead to double digits midway through the second half. The Pokes trailed by as many as 13 points and couldn’t close the gap as the clock ran down.
