A fatal crash on Interstate 80 near Cheyenne on Sunday morning resulted in the death of a truck driver, according to the Wyoming Highway Patrol, KGAB AM 650 reports.
The incident occurred at approximately 10:24 a.m. at milepost 344, roughly 15 miles west of Cheyenne.
The crash involved two Volvo trucks. The 2024 Volvo, traveling westbound in the right lane at approximately 25 mph with its hazard lights on, was struck from behind by a 2016 Volvo traveling at around 65 mph. The driver of the 2016 Volvo failed to notice that the slower-moving truck was traveling significantly below the normal traffic speed, leading to the rear-end collision.
The driver of the 2024 Volvo, 41-year-old Leonid Paladiy from Oregon, was pronounced dead at the scene despite being wearing a seatbelt. The other driver and a passenger in the 2016 Volvo were unharmed.
The crash took place under clear weather conditions and on dry roadways. However, no further details on potential contributing factors were available at the time.
This marks the second fatality reported on Wyoming highways this year. The Wyoming Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation into the crash.
