A disruptive incident occurred aboard a JetBlue flight at Boston Logan International Airport when a passenger suddenly opened an exit door while the plane was taxiing for takeoff.

Massachusetts authorities reported that the individual was quickly restrained by other passengers onboard, preventing further escalation. The flight was eventually delayed, with passengers being switched to another aircraft.

The incident took place on JetBlue flight 161, scheduled to depart for San Juan, Puerto Rico, on Tuesday evening. At approximately 7:30 p.m., the passenger opened the overwing exit door, causing an emergency slide to deploy. This unexpected action led to some confusion and panic among passengers, though the situation was swiftly managed.

According to passenger Fred Wynn, the person who opened the door had been arguing with a companion before running toward the exit. Passengers nearby reacted quickly, trying to stop the individual from causing further disruption.

Massachusetts State Police spokesperson Tim McGuirk confirmed that the suspect, later identified as Angel Luis Torres Morales from Puerto Rico, would face charges. He was arraigned on Wednesday in East Boston Municipal Court on charges of interfering with the operations of an aircraft. Torres Morales pleaded not guilty, with his next court appearance scheduled for March 4.

The airline, JetBlue, confirmed that after the incident, the flight was swapped for another aircraft. The flight ultimately made its way to San Juan, and the airline expressed appreciation for the passengers’ understanding during the disruption.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the matter.
