A six-year-old boy from Wyoming has been recognized for his quick thinking and bravery in saving his grandmother’s life after discovering her unconscious one morning.
The Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office recently honored Mason Rasmussen for his heroic actions during a special ceremony.
On the morning of December 19, Mason woke up to his grandmother’s alarm and began preparing for school. When he entered her room, he found his 54-year-old grandmother, Kimberly Gibson, unresponsive on the floor. Despite the alarming situation, Mason dressed himself and went to school, where he alerted his teacher about the incident.

His report set off a chain of events that led first responders to Gibson’s home, where they were able to provide life-saving care.

Gibson, who has Type 1 diabetes, later explained that her blood sugar had dropped dangerously low during the night. She suspected she may have been experiencing a seizure when Mason found her.

Mason’s actions proved vital.

“I tried to blow air into your body, but that didn’t work,” Gibson recounted from her grandson’s description of the events.

Despite his young age, Mason demonstrated remarkable composure by getting to school and seeking help.

In a ceremony at Gibson’s home, deputies presented Mason with a framed bravery certificate and a package of gifts. Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Deputy Jason Mower highlighted Mason’s calm demeanor under pressure and his decision to notify a trusted adult, which ultimately saved his grandmother’s life.

Detective Stephanie Cassidy, who visited Mason at school during the incident, praised the boy’s courage and resilience.

“There’s something in him; he’s a good boy,” Cassidy said.

She reflected on his ability to navigate a distressing situation and ensure his grandmother received help.
