Lions Add Veteran Quarterback Teddy Bridgewater for Playoff Push
The Detroit Lions have signed veteran quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, bringing him back to the team to bolster their depth at the position as they head into the playoffs, The Associated Press reports.
The move, announced by coach Dan Campbell on Thursday, adds a seasoned backup option behind starter Jared Goff and second-year player Hendon Hooker.
The Lions have already secured a playoff berth and are in contention for the top seed in the NFC with two games remaining. The addition of Bridgewater provides crucial experience and stability to the quarterback room during this critical stretch of the season.
Bridgewater previously served as the Lions’ backup quarterback during the 2023 season, seeing limited action with three snaps during a decisive victory against the Carolina Panthers. Following the season, he transitioned to coaching, leading his high school alma mater, Miami Northwestern High, to a Florida Class 3A state championship.
A former first-round pick by the Minnesota Vikings in 2014, Bridgewater has started 65 games throughout his NFL career. He also has a history with Coach Campbell, having spent two seasons with the New Orleans Saints when Campbell was an assistant coach on the team.
While Hendon Hooker has seen limited game action this season, completing 6 of 9 passes for 62 yards across three games, the Lions clearly value the experience and reliability Bridgewater brings to the roster.
