The second week of the 2024-25 Wyoming high school basketball season concluded last Saturday, revealing mixed results for the state’s top-ranked teams, WyoPreps reports.
Some excelled, while others faced challenges, providing a snapshot of how the season is unfolding for the leading boys’ and girls’ teams in the WyoPreps Coaches and Media Basketball Polls.
Girls Basketball Recap
Class 4A
- #1 East (2-1): Achieved a dominant 45-17 victory at Scottsbluff, NE, but fell short in a close 43-41 game against St. Thomas More (SD). They rebounded with a 56-52 overtime win over Sidney, NE.
- #2 Sheridan (2-0): Had a strong week, defeating Kelly Walsh 49-26 and Natrona County 45-34.
- #3 Central (2-1): Claimed a 52-45 win over Sidney, NE, before losing 53-38 to Kearney, NE. They ended the week with a 46-38 victory against St. Thomas More (SD).
- #4 Campbell County (0-0): Did not play.
- #5 Laramie (4-0): Went undefeated with wins over Star Valley (44-40), Thermopolis (54-52), Rock Springs (42-28), and Riverton (39-33).
Class 3A
- #1 Douglas (4-0): Continued their dominance with wins against Lovell, Lander, Cody, and Powell.
- #2 Cody (2-1): Secured victories over Burns and Wheatland but lost to Douglas.
- #3 Pinedale (2-1): Split results with wins over Rock Springs and Star Valley but a loss to Green River.
- #4 Powell (1-2): Struggled with losses to Wheatland and Douglas but managed a decisive win over Burns.
- Tied #5 Buffalo (1-0): Opened their season with a resounding 70-27 victory over Big Horn.
- Tied #5 Mountain View (2-1): Split their week with wins against Riverton and Green River but a loss to Bear Lake, ID.
Class 2A and 1A
Teams in these divisions also showcased notable performances, including Wyoming Indian and Tongue River leading 2A, while Southeast and Lingle-Ft. Laramie dominated 1A with undefeated records.

Class 4A
- #1 Laramie (2-2): Split their week with wins against Basic, NV, and Las Vegas, but losses to Coral Glades, FL, and Buchanan, CA.
- #2 East (0-3): Faced a tough week with losses to Scottsbluff, NE, St. Thomas More (SD), and Sidney, NE.

- #5 Wheatland (0-4): Faced a tough week with losses to Cody, Lander, Powell, and Lovell.
Class 2A and 1A
Wright and Wyoming Indian emerged as the leaders in 2A with strong records, while Lingle-Ft. Laramie and Upton dominated the 1A rankings.
With no games scheduled for this week, teams will regroup for Week 3 action starting Thursday, Jan. 2, 2025. New rankings will be released on Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2025.
