The University of Wyoming swim team is set to conclude its 2024 competition schedule at the UNLV Invite, taking place from December 16 to 18 in Las Vegas, 7220 Sports reports.

This will be the Pokes’ final meet before winter break, offering them a chance to finish the year strong.

The meet marks Wyoming’s return to competition after nearly a month-long break. The team last competed at the Colorado Mesa Invite, where they delivered impressive performances. With that momentum, head coach Dave Denniston is eager to see his athletes face off against a competitive field that includes mid-major Division I programs like UCLA, UNLV, and Cal Baptist.

“It’s a new meet for us, so I don’t have big expectations going in, but I know the competition is going to be really solid,” Denniston said. “I expect to see a few of our athletes shine in that moment and be able to rest a little while swimming at sea-level, which is something we haven’t done yet this season.”

The three-day event will feature preliminary heats each morning at 10:30 a.m., followed by final races in the evening at 6 p.m. For Wyoming’s swimmers, this schedule provides an opportunity to test themselves against strong competition while also adjusting to sea-level conditions, as opposed to the higher altitude of their home training facility.

The team’s next competition will be on January 11, 2025, when they host Denver for Senior Day at Laramie High School. This will be their first meet of the new year and a chance to honor their senior athletes.
