Wyoming Police Remind Drivers: Holiday Lights Belong on Homes, Not Cars
Wyoming motorists are being reminded to keep their holiday cheer off the road after a driver was pulled over for covering their vehicle in Christmas lights, AccuWeather reports.
The Wyoming Highway Patrol (WHP) shared a photo of the incident on social media, showing a Ford Mustang decked out in colorful, festive lights as it was stopped by a state trooper.
The WHP used the opportunity to educate the public on state traffic laws.
“While decorating a car might look cool and be festive, we would like to remind you that it is illegal,” the agency said in its post.
The patrol referenced a Wyoming statute that prohibits vehicles from having lights that could be mistaken for emergency vehicles. Specifically, the law states:
“No person shall drive or move any vehicle or equipment upon any highway with any lamp or device thereon capable of displaying a red or blue light visible from directly in front of the center thereof.”
The Wyoming Highway Patrol encouraged residents to channel their holiday spirit into decorating their homes instead of their vehicles.
“Please remember to stay safe when celebrating this season!” the agency added.
