A single-vehicle crash near Carlin, Nevada, on Nov. 25 claimed the life of a Wyoming man.

Authorities with the Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) responded to the accident on State Route 278 near mile marker 70 around 1:00 p.m.

According to a preliminary investigation, the driver, identified as 48-year-old James Lewis of Rock Springs, Wyoming, was operating a three-axle straight truck northbound when the vehicle veered off the right side of the roadway. The truck struck two reflective marker posts before the driver overcorrected, causing the vehicle to rotate counterclockwise and reenter the road. The truck then crossed the roadway broadside, drove off the left side, and overturned.

Lewis succumbed to his injuries at the scene and was pronounced dead. The Nevada Highway Patrol Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating the incident, which remains an open case.

Authorities are seeking information from anyone who may have witnessed the crash. Those with information are urged to contact the NHP Elko Office at (775) 753-1111 or email ncemirt@dps.state.nv.us.
