Tucker Carlson Returns to Moscow for Lavrov Interview, Says US on Brink of Nuclear War with Russia
Former Fox News host Tucker Carlson has returned to Russia’s Moscow for a second interview with a top Russian official, this time speaking with Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Daily Mail reports.
In a video posted to social media, Carlson, appearing outside the Kremlin, stated his purpose was to offer an alternative perspective on the war in Ukraine, which he says the Biden administration is escalating toward nuclear conflict.
Ten months after his interview with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Carlson asserted that the Biden administration’s actions in Ukraine have brought the US perilously close to nuclear war with Russia. He cited US missile strikes inside Russia as evidence of a “hot war” and claimed a lack of communication between the US and Russian governments. Carlson accused the Biden administration of actively preventing Americans from hearing the Russian perspective, stressing that the US embassy in Kyiv instructed Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky not to grant him an interview.
Carlson previewed his upcoming interview with Lavrov, hinting that he questioned the Foreign Minister about the potential impact of Donald Trump’s election on the war and the possibility of Russia shifting away from China’s influence. He described the interview as “absolutely fascinating” and promised its imminent release, though he did not specify the platform.
This latest trip to Russia follows Carlson’s interview with Putin last year, where critics accused him of allowing the Russian leader to control the narrative and avoid tough questions about war crimes. Carlson previously said the National Security Agency (NSA) spied on him in 2021 after he attempted to arrange an interview with Putin, alleging his communications were intercepted and his identity unmasked by senior intelligence officials.
Carlson, a known critic of US support for Ukraine, has previously suggested that the West bears some responsibility for the conflict and has defended Putin’s actions. His show, “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” was once the highest-rated cable news program in the US before its cancellation in April 2023.
