The Wyoming Cowboys football program, led by head coach Jay Sawvel, is gearing up for a major roster overhaul ahead of the 2025 season, 7220sports reports.

At least 19 recruits are expected to sign during the early signing period on Wednesday, with Sawvel hoping to increase that number to around 23 in the coming days.

The offseason has been anything but quiet, as Sawvel and his staff work to balance recruitment with impending roster restrictions, limiting FBS programs to 105 players. The NCAA Transfer Portal opens next week, adding another layer of complexity.

Among the top recruits is Mason Drube, a highly touted 3-star quarterback from Gillette, Wyoming, who will enroll early and participate in spring practices. Drube is the state’s No. 1 prospect, having thrown for 2,434 yards and 23 touchdowns in his final high school season. His father, Kirby Drube, is a former Cowboy, continuing a family legacy at Wyoming.

Other notable recruits include:

  • Elvin Ampofo, a 3-star defensive back from Aurora, Colorado, and the 15th-ranked player in the state.
  • Cade Brook, a 3-star defensive end from Denver, with offers from several top programs, including Boise State and Washington State.
  • Jaden Lawrence, a 3-star running back from Parker, Colorado, known for his speed, having set a school record with 2,801 rushing yards at Legend High School.

Despite recent high-profile commitment flips — including offensive lineman Marcus McGregor switching to Cincinnati — Wyoming has managed to sway several recruits its way. The staff is also monitoring the transfer portal closely to ensure depth and competition at key positions.
