As festive decorations brighten homes and streets across Wyoming, the Wyoming Highway Patrol (WHP) is reminding drivers that Christmas lights belong on trees and houses, not vehicles—especially if they include red or blue lights, Oil City News reprots.

In a recent social media post, WHP cited Wyoming Statute 31-5-928, which prohibits vehicles from displaying red or blue lights visible from the front.

“While this might look cool and be festive, we would like to remind you that it is illegal,” the WHP wrote.

WHP emphasized that the law is not about being a Grinch, but about safety.

The statute states:

“No person shall drive or move any vehicle or equipment upon any highway with any lamp or device thereon capable of displaying a red or blue light visible from directly in front of the center thereof.”

Holiday lights can be a joyful sight, but the WHP stressed that adding them to moving vehicles could distract other drivers, potentially causing dangerous situations.

The WHP encouraged residents to stay safe while enjoying the season and to remember that decorations are best left on stationary objects.

“Please remember to stay safe when celebrating this season!” the post concluded.
