Egyptian authorities have recovered the bodies of three of the sixteen people missing following the sinking of a tourist boat in the Red Sea on Monday, Bloomberg reports.

Amr Hanafi, the governor of the Red Sea province, confirmed the recovery of the bodies off the coast of Marsa Allam, the departure point for the ill-fated vessel. He did not release the nationalities of the deceased or provide further details.

The 34-meter-long boat, identified as the Sea Story, capsized after encountering a “big wave,” according to Governor Hanafi, who cited accounts from surviving tourists and crew members. The boat was carrying 44 passengers, the majority of whom were foreign nationals.

Twenty-eight passengers have been rescued, and officials reported that none of the survivors sustained serious injuries requiring hospitalization. The passengers represented a diverse range of nationalities including Belgium, Slovakia, Switzerland, the US, Spain, the UK, Germany, Poland, Norway, Ireland, Finland, and China. Thirteen Egyptian passengers were also onboard, along with the Egyptian crew.

The Sea Story departed from Marsa Allam on Sunday and was en route to the tourist destination of Hurghada, scheduled to arrive on November 29.
