Wyoming Game and Fish to Hold Mule Deer Discussions in Casper Region
The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is inviting residents of the Casper Region to participate in a series of community meetings focused on mule deer conservation and management, Oil City News reports.
These informal discussions will take place throughout December in several communities, including Lusk, Douglas, Glenrock, Casper, Newcastle, and Sundance.
The meetings will not feature formal presentations but will provide an opportunity for the public to engage directly with wildlife biologists and game wardens. Attendees will be able to ask questions and discuss issues related to the local mule deer populations, which have been experiencing a decline across the western United States over the past several decades.
“Mule deer are a highly valued species in Wyoming, drawing significant interest from hunters, landowners, and wildlife enthusiasts… However, mule deer populations have faced challenges in recent years, and we are committed to understanding and conserving this iconic species,” the Game and Fish Department stated in a release.
These community conversations come in response to a 2023 hunter attitude survey, which revealed that Wyoming hunters are interested in having more input on the future management of mule deer populations. The goal of these meetings is to create an open dialogue between the public and wildlife managers, allowing for the exchange of ideas and perspectives on mule deer conservation efforts.
