Authorities Investigate Plane Crash at Northeast Wyoming Regional Airport
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has launched an investigation into a plane crash that occurred Sunday afternoon at the Northeast Wyoming Regional Airport in Gillette, Cap City News reports.
According to the Campbell County Sheriff’s Office, the crash was reported at 4:26 p.m. after an automatic crash detection alert was triggered on a cellphone inside the aircraft.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene and found a single-engine Piper PA-28 within the airport’s operations area. The aircraft sustained significant damage, and its two occupants were transported to Campbell County Health with apparent minor injuries for further evaluation, the sheriff’s office reported.
Preliminary reports indicate that the plane crashed shortly after taking off while heading north.
The NTSB has taken over the investigation and will release additional information as it becomes available.
