The Wyoming Cowgirls volleyball team delivered a dramatic Senior Day victory with a reverse sweep of Nevada, winning 22–25, 15–25, 25–7, 25–13, 15–9.
The match, held at the UniWyo Sports Complex, capped off the regular season with a rousing win for the team, who rallied from a two-set deficit to dominate the final three sets.
After dropping the first two sets, Wyoming found its footing in the third. The Cowgirls went on an 8–0 run to start the set, ultimately hitting .421 and outscoring Nevada 25–7. Their defense was particularly strong, recording nine blocks in the third set alone, setting the tone for the remainder of the match.
In the fourth set, the Cowgirls maintained their momentum, outscoring the Wolf Pack 15–3 after an early tie at 10. Wyoming finished the set with a decisive 7–0 run.
The fifth and final set saw the lead tied four times before the Cowgirls surged ahead with a crucial 4–0 run. Sophomore Paige Lauterwasser sealed the win, contributing three of the team’s final five points.
Standout Performances
- Paige Lauterwasser led Wyoming’s offense with 20 kills and 11 digs, earning her eighth double-double of the season.
- Sarah Holcomb and Kayla Mazzocca were dominant defensively, combining for 22 blocks. Holcomb’s 14 blocks marked a career high.
- Kasia Partyka paced the team with 48 assists, while Sierra Grizzle led with 22 digs.
The team’s overall effort at the net resulted in 23 total blocks, just shy of a program record for a five-set match.
The match marked the final home game for Wyoming seniors Macey Boggs, Kayla Mazzocca, Kasia Partyka, Kendal Rivera, and Sonte Stewart, who were honored before the match.
“They’ve been huge for this team… Culturally, the job they’ve done can’t be understated,” said head coach Kaylee Prigge of the senior leadership.
With the regular season complete, the Cowgirls are hopeful for a spot in the National Invitational Volleyball Championship (NIVC), with the selection show set for December 1.
“I feel really good about our chances of being selected… I’d love to host and get another game back in the UniWyo, if we can,” Prigge said.
