The Wyoming State Archives is set to host its next monthly Speaker Series event this Thursday, November 14, at 7 p.m., featuring a presentation by local historian Beverly Holmes, The Cheyenne Post reports.
The event will take place in the State Museum Classroom at 2301 Central Avenue in Cheyenne, and virtual attendance is also available via registration on Eventbrite. This free event welcomes all members of the public, both in person and online.
Beverly Holmes, a second-generation Wyomingite and celebrated member of the Wyoming Homemakers Association, will delve into the history and impact of this storied organization and its esteemed Quealy Awards. Holmes, a Quealy Award recipient herself, will discuss the award criteria and highlight the accomplishments of three notable awardees: Bee Hudson, Julia Edwards, and Mary Raymond. She will also explore the contributions of oral historian Deanna Cosner, who has played an instrumental role in preserving the history of Wyoming homemakers.
Holmes brings a lifetime of dedication to Wyoming history and community service to her presentation. A member of the Wyoming Homemakers Association for over seven decades, Holmes has been deeply involved in local history initiatives. She co-authored a book with her daughter Betty, has served as a member of the Officers Military Club since 1953, and has presented Wyoming’s rich history to fourth-grade students across multiple counties. Holmes has also volunteered for Meals on Wheels and was a founding member of the Wyoming National Guard Museum.
This talk marks the final Speaker Series event for 2024, with presentations set to resume on February 13, 2025, when archivist Leslie Waggener will explore the history of the Second Ku Klux Klan in Wyoming. Recordings of Speaker Series events are available on the Wyoming State Archives YouTube channel the week following each talk.
