Kremlin Denies Report of Putin-Trump Phone Call, No Plans for Contact Yet
The Kremlin has vehemently denied a report by The Washington Post claiming that Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President-elect Donald Trump held a phone conversation on Thursday, Bloomberg reports.
“This is completely untrue, it is pure fiction,” Putin’s spokesperson, Dmitry Peskov, told reporters on Monday. “There was no conversation.”
The Washington Post, citing unidentified sources with knowledge of the matter, had reported that the two leaders discussed the goal of peace in Europe, with Trump advising Putin against escalating his war in Ukraine and highlighting the significant US military presence in Europe.
Peskov maintained that there are “no specific plans yet” for any contact between Putin and Trump, reaffirming a statement made by the Russian president during the annual Valdai Club meeting in Sochi on Thursday.
