On Friday, November 8, the Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) will conduct avalanche control maintenance on US Highway 189/191 through Hoback Canyon, with intermittent closures planned between 8:30 a.m. and 10 a.m.

Drivers should expect delays of up to 30 minutes during these maintenance activities.

Maintenance crews, using helicopters, will be working in the Stinking Springs area of Hoback Canyon to service and refuel the avalanche control system known as O’Bellx units. These units are designed to detonate small, controlled avalanches, reducing the risk of larger, unplanned slides and enhancing road safety.

WYDOT advises travelers to plan for potential delays and drive with caution near the maintenance areas.
