Trump Delivers Final Pitch, Denounces Harris as “Disaster”
Republican nominee Donald Trump concluded his 2024 re-election bid with a whistle-stop tour of three states, delivering a scathing critique of his opponent, Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris, at his final campaign event in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Al Jazeera reports.
“She’s a radical lunatic who destroyed San Francisco,” Trump asserted of Harris, who served as San Francisco’s district attorney and mayor. “We don’t have to settle for weakness, incompetence, and decline.”
Trump’s campaign has focused on immigration, the economy, and a desire for retribution against his political adversaries. He has repeatedly claimed that his 2020 election loss was “stolen.”
In his final rally, Trump applied similar language to his former adversary, President Joe Biden, who withdrew from the presidential race in July.
Polls show that Trump is neck and neck with Harris in the final hours of the campaign. However, in his closing remarks, Trump sought to create a narrative that his popularity far exceeded hers.
“When we win the election, they can’t do anything about it,” Trump declared. “We win.”
Trump also invoked the economy, promising to reduce grocery prices and increase paychecks. He acknowledged the toll the nonstop campaign schedule had taken on him but expressed gratitude for the support he received.
The Grand Rapids appearance was the third in a series of rallies Trump held earlier on Monday, including speeches in Raleigh, North Carolina; Reading, Pennsylvania; and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Grand Rapids has become a tradition for Trump’s final campaign events, as it was the site of his last rallies in 2016 and 2020.
The Harris campaign has sought to portray Trump as unfit for the presidency due to his age and health. Harris has positioned herself as a “new generation” of leader, contrasting herself with the older Trump.
Trump has also faced controversy over his rhetoric, including comments suggesting that guns be trained on Liz Cheney and that he would not mind if someone shot the media. He has sought to redirect criticism to President Biden, who appeared to call Republican supporters “garbage” in response to a comment made at a Trump rally.
Despite the controversies, Trump remains a polarizing figure with a dedicated base of supporters.
