Donald Trump rode in a white garbage truck emblazoned with his name on Thursday in Green Bay, Wisconsin in a stunt which was seemingly a direct response to President Joe Biden’s earlier comment suggesting Trump supporters were “garbage,” The Associated Press reports.

The incident began with a comedian’s disparaging remark about Puerto Rico at a Trump rally, which sparked backlash and drew criticism. Trump then seized on Biden’s comment, which the President later described as a reference to Trump’s perceived demonization of Latinos.

Donning an orange and yellow safety vest over his usual attire, Trump climbed into the garbage truck after arriving in Green Bay for an evening rally. He then engaged in a brief conversation with reporters, similar to his recent photo opportunity at a Pennsylvania McDonalds.

“How do you like my garbage truck?” Trump asked reporters, pointing to the vehicle. “This is in honor of Kamala and Joe Biden.”

While Trump again distanced himself from the comedian’s controversial joke, he did not denounce it. He also maintained that he did not need to apologize to Puerto Ricans.

“I love Puerto Rico and Puerto Rico loves me,” Trump asserted from his unusual perch.

The former President concluded his brief appearance by thanking reporters and expressing his hope they enjoyed the “garbage truck.” He remained in the vest while taking the stage for his rally.

Trump’s spokesperson stated that the comedian’s joke does not reflect the former president’s views.
