As Casper experiences a winter storm bringing wet, heavy snow, city officials are urging residents to take steps to protect trees, particularly those with full canopies.
The snow’s weight poses a heightened risk to branches, especially on trees that still have leaves.
To help minimize tree damage, the city recommends that residents with smaller trees carefully shake snow from branches and leaves.
“Taking just a few minutes to clear snow from branches can prevent significant damage to trees… It’s a small effort that can make a big difference, especially with the heavy, wet snow we’re experiencing,” said city arborist Katy Hallock.
City officials also caution against shaking larger branches, particularly those out of reach, to prevent potential injuries. These proactive steps can help preserve Casper’s trees through the storm and reduce the risk of property damage from broken branches.
