Wyoming Cowboys wide receiver Alex Brown will miss the remainder of the season after suffering a broken left fibula during the team’s game against Utah State, KGAB AM 650 reports.

The injury occurred on the first offensive drive, when Brown was inadvertently rolled up on, resulting in an immediate end to his sixth-year season.

Head Coach Jay Sawvel confirmed that Brown would undergo surgery this week, with an expected recovery period of around six weeks.

“Fortunately for him, it’s the lesser of the evils, that way,” Sawvel remarked.

Thus he referenced the injury’s relatively short recovery time compared to more severe breaks.

Brown’s career with the Cowboys spans five years, capped at 229 yards on 19 catches. This season, he had two receptions for 21 yards. His career highlight came in 2022 when he made a memorable 32-yard touchdown catch against Colorado State. This play helped Wyoming secure a narrow 14-13 victory in the Border War, a moment Brown describes as surreal.

“It was kind of like a fever dream,” he recalled in August 2023.

Brown noted that it was the first game his family had attended in years.

Originally from Spring, Texas, Brown was a three-star recruit from Klein Collins High School. During his senior year, he achieved Academic All-District honors and received offers from several programs, including Mountain West rival Air Force, Southern Miss, and Ivy League schools like Columbia and Yale.

In a heartfelt social media post last offseason, Brown expressed gratitude for his time in Laramie.

“[Wyoming is]a place I have been grateful to call home for the last five years,” he said.

Brown also reflected on his journey from “a 17-year-old kid with no idea of what to do” to someone who had made lifelong memories.
