Social Media Speculates on Possible Whistleblower Behind Abercrombie’s Ex-CEO Arrest in Trafficking Case
Following the arrest of former Abercrombie & Fitch CEO Michael S. Jeffries on federal charges related to an alleged sex trafficking ring, social media has ignited with speculation over potential whistleblowers, including speculation involving music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs.
Jeffries, who led Abercrombie during its early 2000s peak, now faces serious accusations from federal prosecutors who claim he organized “sex events” with the aid of associates in the US and internationally, coercing aspiring male models with deceptive tactics. Allegedly, participants were asked to sign nondisclosure agreements, surrender personal belongings, and were provided substances such as Viagra.
The charges against Jeffries resemble some allegations in a separate case against Combs, who was indicted in September on charges of domestic sex trafficking and interstate prostitution. Prosecutors in Combs’ case have filed multiple charges involving over 100 plaintiffs who allege mistreatment. Following Combs’ high-profile indictment, some social media users theorized he may have cooperated with authorities, possibly implicating Jeffries to lessen his own legal troubles.
TikTok and X (formerly Twitter) users voiced various theories, drawing comparisons between the charges against both men. Speculation on these platforms suggested Combs may “tell all to save himself,” with some users questioning if Combs was motivated to assist investigators or if he could face similar legal repercussions if he fails to cooperate.
While Jeffries posted a $10 million bond and awaits trial under house arrest, Combs remains in custody.
