Diddy’s Legal Team Demands Immediate Release of Seized Materials
Sean “Diddy” Combs, facing charges of racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking, and transportation to engage in prostitution, is currently in federal custody awaiting trial. While he maintains his innocence, his legal team is ramping up pressure on the government, demanding the immediate release of materials seized over six months ago, CNN reports.
Combs has spent the past three weeks in jail, focusing on his legal defense and receiving visits from his family. His attorneys argue that the government’s continued possession of these materials is preventing them from effectively preparing for trial and potentially jeopardizing their ability to build a strong defense.
The specific nature of the seized materials is unclear, but Combs’ lawyers are insistent that their release is crucial. They have filed a motion demanding the judge order the government to hand over the materials without further delay.
This demand comes as the prosecution has begun providing evidence to Combs’ legal team, including his cell phone and data from multiple devices and iCloud accounts. However, the defense argues that the delay in accessing the materials seized earlier this year is unacceptable and hinders their ability to mount a robust defense.
Meanwhile, Combs’ attorneys have also filed a motion accusing the government of leaking a video of him assaulting his former girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, to the broadcaster. They claim the leak undermines his right to a fair trial and have requested a gag order on the government to prevent further leaks.
The government has not yet responded to either motion. As Combs prepares for his third court appearance on Thursday, he remains in custody after being denied bail twice. The case is now before Judge Arun Subramanian after Judge Andrew Carter recused himself due to a prior relationship with one of Combs’ new attorneys.
