Two homes were destroyed in the Horseshoe subdivision west of Dayton Saturday morning by the rapidly growing Elk fire, MTN News reports.

The blaze, fueled by high winds and unpredictable fire activity, has now consumed some 60,000 acres in northern Wyoming.

According to a news release from Sheridan County Emergency Management, the fire remains uncontained at zero percent. The intense fire behavior has resulted in significant challenges for firefighters battling the blaze.

Authorities are urging residents to stay informed about the fire’s progress and any evacuation orders through official channels.
