Tesla has announced its fifth recall of the Cybertruck in the past year, affecting over 27,000 vehicles.

The recall was issued due to a software glitch that delays the display of the rear-view camera image, potentially increasing the risk of a crash. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) noted that the rear-view camera sometimes takes up to eight seconds to show an image, far exceeding the two-second requirement mandated by US safety regulations.

Tesla will address the issue with an over-the-air software update, allowing affected vehicles to correct the problem without requiring a visit to a service center. According to the company, drivers can still safely reverse by performing traditional shoulder checks and using their mirrors while waiting for the camera to activate.

This recall is the latest in a series of challenges for the Cybertruck since its release. Previous recalls have included issues with the accelerator pedal, windshield wipers, and vehicle trim. Despite these setbacks, Tesla remains committed to resolving problems through software updates, avoiding more invasive repairs.

So far, there have been no reports of crashes or injuries related to the delayed camera display. Tesla identified the problem during an internal compliance audit and has since received 45 warranty claims and four field reports related to the defect.

Despite these recalls, Tesla continues to see growth in sales. The company delivered nearly 463,000 vehicles worldwide in the third quarter of this year, marking a 6% increase from the same period in 2023.
