Top-Ranked New Mexico Hosts Wyoming in Key Mountain West Matchup

The Wyoming Cowboys will embark on a two-game road stretch starting with a showdown against the New Mexico Lobos on Wednesday evening at 8 p.m. MT in the famed “Pit” at The University of New Mexico, 7220 Sports reports.

The game will be broadcast live on FS1, with Nick Koop calling the action and Casey Jacobsen providing analysis. Fans can also follow the game on the Cowboy Sports Network or via live stats on GoWyo.com.

Wyoming enters the game with an overall record of 11-13 and a 4-9 mark in Mountain West play. Most recently, the Cowboys were defeated at home by UNLV, 68-57, on Saturday. On average, Wyoming scores 68.3 points per game, but they allow 70.4 points per contest. In conference play, the Cowboys have been strong from beyond the arc, ranking third in the Mountain West with a 35.9% shooting percentage from three-point range. Defensively, they rank third in the conference, allowing teams to shoot 32.9% from distance.

New Mexico, on the other hand, comes into the contest with an impressive 20-4 overall record and a 12-1 mark in Mountain West play. The Lobos have been dominant, winning 13 of their last 14 games, including a 88-53 victory over Air Force last Saturday. They rank 14th in the nation in scoring, averaging 83.7 points per game. Additionally, New Mexico leads the conference in fast-break points (16.9 per game), ranking sixth nationally, and is 10th in the nation in rebounds per game (40.8).

For Wyoming, Obi Agbim has been the team’s leading scorer, averaging 17.6 points per game, which ranks third in the conference. Agbim also leads the league with a 44.4% shooting percentage from three-point range, placing him 14th nationally. He is also the team’s leader in assists, with 3.5 per game, ranking 12th in the Mountain West.

Jordan Nesbitt has been a key contributor as well, with eight double-doubles on the season, ranking third in the conference and 36th in the nation. He averages 8.7 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. Kobe Newton has also been solid, averaging eight points per game and contributing 39 three-pointers this season.

New Mexico’s star player is Donovan Dent, who leads the Lobos in scoring with 19.6 points per game, ranking first in the Mountain West and 23rd in the nation. Dent also ranks second in the conference in assists, with 6.5 per game, placing him ninth nationally. Nelly Junior Joseph has been a dominant force in the paint, averaging 13.8 points and 11 rebounds per game. Joseph leads the Mountain West in rebounding and ranks fourth nationally. He also has 13 double-doubles on the season, ranking sixth in the nation.

Wyoming trails the all-time series against New Mexico 81-72, with a 25-47 record on the road. The two teams previously met in Laramie on January 7, where the Lobos rallied in the second half to secure a 61-53 victory.

Following the matchup with New Mexico, Wyoming will travel to Colorado State for the second Border War of the season on Saturday at 2 p.m.
