Following the successful return of American teacher Marc Fogel from Russia on Tuesday, anticipation is building as another American hostage is expected to be released on Wednesday, Fox News reports.

The news signals a promising trend in ongoing efforts to bring Americans held abroad back home, bolstered by the Trump administration’s continued dedication to the issue.

According to Special Envoy for Hostages Adam Boehler and Secretary of State Marco Rubio in a CNN interview, another American is expected to be released Wednesday.

Details regarding the identity and location of the individual were not disclosed, but Boehler, speaking with Fox News’ Sean Hannity, emphasized the importance of discretion to ensure a successful release.

“It’ll be unilateral as well, and I can’t release until the person is released…the president has made it a priority to get all Americans home.”

The announcement coincided with Marc Fogel, 63, a Pennsylvania history teacher previously deemed wrongfully detained in Russia, returning to the US on Tuesday night. Fogel was greeted by President Donald Trump at the White House, marking a triumphant end to his ordeal.

National Security Advisor Mike Waltz acknowledged the collaborative spirit of the recent exchanges, stating that President Trump and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff successfully negotiated with the Russian side. Waltz further noted that this “serves as a good show of faith from the Russians,” hinting at potential positive momentum in broader diplomatic efforts.

Waltz further expressed cautious optimism that these developments could lead to progress in resolving the conflict in Ukraine, saying things are “moving in the right direction to end the brutal and terrible war in Ukraine.”

Fogel, who taught at the Anglo-American School in Moscow for nine years, was arrested in August 2021 for possession of medically prescribed marijuana, a charge his family staunchly refuted.

Fogel’s family released a statement expressing their gratitude for his safe return.

“Since President Trump’s swearing-in, he has successfully secured the release of Americans detained around the world, and President Trump will continue until all Americans being held are returned to the United States,” Waltz said in a press release.

“By tonight, Marc Fogel will be on American soil and reunited with his family and loved ones thanks to President Trump’s leadership,” he added.

Fogel’s release comes after he was notably excluded from a larger prisoner swap in August 2024. He maintained a stoic demeanor throughout his detention, and was described by family as a 1984 graduate of the Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
