Wyoming Cowboys Begin Homestand with Utah State in 92nd Meeting

The University of Wyoming Cowboys will open a two-game homestand on Tuesday as they host Utah State at 6:30 p.m. in the Arena-Auditorium, University of Wyoming Athletics reports.

This matchup marks the 92nd meeting between the two schools, with the Aggies narrowly defeating the Cowboys 70-67 in their first meeting this season in December.

Wyoming enters the game with an overall record of 11-11 and a 4-7 mark in Mountain West Conference play, having lost 63-61 to San Diego State on the road last Saturday. The Cowboys are known for their strong three-point shooting, hitting 35.7% from beyond the arc, ranking third in the Mountain West. In conference play, they improve to 38.1% shooting from three, ranking second in the league. Wyoming’s field goal percentage sits at 44.2%, while opponents are shooting 43.7%.

Utah State, with a 19-3 overall record and a 9-2 conference record, enters the game after an 82-63 loss to New Mexico, which resulted in a shift in first-place standings. The Aggies have been a dominant force, averaging 81.5 points per game, ranking second in the Mountain West, and shooting an impressive 49.2% from the field, placing them first in the conference and 16th nationally. Additionally, Utah State leads the league with 18.7 assists per game, ranking fifth in the nation.

Wyoming’s leading scorer, Obi Agbim, averages 17.8 points per game, ranking second in the conference. He is also a standout from three-point range, shooting 45.8% from beyond the arc, leading the Mountain West and ranking fifth nationally. Agbim has also been contributing more in recent games, adding 17 assists in his last three contests. Jordan Nesbitt continues to impress with his eighth double-double of the season, adding 8.6 points per game and 7.3 rebounds per game, ranking fourth in the Mountain West. Kobe Newton, another key player, has contributed 8.2 points per game and has made 35 three-pointers on the season.

Utah State’s top scorer, Ian Martinez, averages 16.4 points per game and has been efficient from beyond the arc, hitting 51 three-pointers and shooting 37% from distance. Mason Falslev, who contributes 14.7 points per game, leads the Aggies in both rebounds (6.2 per game) and assists (3.8 per game).

The Cowboys hold the all-time series lead over Utah State with a 53-38 advantage. At home in Laramie, Wyoming has dominated with a 32-10 record against the Aggies. However, Utah State claimed the first meeting this season, edging out Wyoming in a close contest, 70-67.

Following Tuesday’s game, Wyoming will host UNLV on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Arena-Auditorium.
