Wyoming Supreme Court Chief Justice Kate M. Fox, who serves as Chairman of the Judicial Nominating Commission, has announced the upcoming vacancy for a Supreme Court Justice following her retirement, effective May 27, 2025, Wyoming News Now reports.

The position will be filled on May 28, 2025.

The vacancy arises as Chief Justice Fox concludes her tenure, prompting the Judicial Nominating Commission to begin the process of selecting a replacement. Expressions of interest from qualified individuals to fill the vacancy will be accepted through Thursday, February 27, 2025. Interested applicants can access the expression of interest form on the Wyoming Supreme Court’s official website. The completed forms must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. on February 27, 2025. The Commission has specified that only the required documents will be considered; letters of recommendation will not be reviewed.

Governor Mark Gordon will appoint the new Justice from a list of three candidates selected by the Judicial Nominating Commission. The Commission includes Chief Justice Fox, along with three lawyers elected by the Wyoming State Bar: Devon O’Connell of Laramie, Mandy Good of Cheyenne, and Clint Langer of Sheridan. Additionally, the Commission includes three non-lawyers appointed by the Governor: Dan Kirkbride of Chugwater, Lisa Anderson of Shell, and Rick Fagnant of Lander.

The salary for the position of Wyoming Supreme Court Justice is set at $187,250 per year, along with state insurance benefits, access to the Wyoming Retirement 457 plan, and a generous judicial pension as outlined in Wyo. Stat. § 9-3-701 et seq.
